Beyond Boruto: Why Fans Are Still Imagining the Next Chapter of Naruto’s World
--
FOLIO OTN – Rumors about the future of the Naruto franchise have once again attracted attention online, particularly claims suggesting that Masashi Kishimoto has confirmed another sequel following Boruto. However, the recent speculation should not be confused with an official announcement. There is currently no confirmed statement from Kishimoto announcing a completely new sequel beyond the existing Boruto storyline.
The rumor has nevertheless sparked an interesting discussion among fans: if the Naruto universe were to receive another major continuation after Boruto, what kind of story would actually be worth telling? Rather than simply repeating the formula of the previous generations, a future project could explore a different period of the shinobi world and introduce characters with goals unrelated to Naruto and Boruto.
This possibility is particularly interesting because the franchise has already established a long-running generational structure. Naruto followed Naruto Uzumaki's rise from an isolated young ninja to the leader of Konohagakure, while Boruto: Naruto Next Generations shifted the focus toward his son and a new generation growing up in a very different era.

The current continuation, Boruto: Two Blue Vortex, already serves as the next major chapter of Boruto's story. The manga follows an older Boruto after a major transformation in the relationship between him and Kawaki, with the protagonist forced to operate under extremely difficult circumstances. The series remains ongoing, meaning the story has not yet reached a definitive endpoint that would require another sequel.
Masashi Kishimoto's connection to the Boruto franchise has also contributed to confusion surrounding these rumors. Kishimoto, the original creator of Naruto, became more directly involved with the manga later in its run, while Mikio Ikemoto remains responsible for the artwork. This involvement can easily lead to misleading claims online suggesting that Kishimoto has personally announced every future development in the franchise.
If another sequel were eventually considered, there would be several directions available. One possibility would be to continue following the descendants of the existing characters. Another could move the timeline much further into the future, allowing the ninja world to evolve technologically and socially while making traditional shinobi techniques less common.
