Ghost in the Shell Enters a New Dimension with an Official Tabletop RPG
--
FOLIO OTN – Fans of Ghost in the Shell now have an opportunity to experience the cyberpunk franchise in an entirely different way. Mantic Games has launched a crowdfunding campaign on BackerKit for an officially licensed tabletop role-playing game based directly on the original manga created by Masamune Shirow. The campaign is scheduled to remain open until August 13, 2026.
Rather than simply retelling the adventures seen in the manga and its various adaptations, the game allows players to create their own members of Public Security Section 9. Their characters can become involved in investigations involving cybercrime, terrorism, artificial intelligence, corporate schemes, and other threats associated with the technologically advanced world of Ghost in the Shell.
The project is being developed by experienced designers Alessio Cavatore and Zak Barouh. It is licensed through Kodansha, making this tabletop RPG specifically connected to the original manga rather than being based on one of the franchise's later anime interpretations.

One of the campaign's biggest attractions is exclusive artwork created by Shirow Masamune himself. The new illustration features Motoko Kusanagi and Batou and was produced specifically for the crowdfunding campaign. Collectors can obtain the artwork as a limited-edition print, either through the Collector's Bundle or as an additional purchase.
The campaign also introduces the first officially licensed Ghost in the Shell tabletop miniatures designed specifically for this RPG. The range includes recognizable Section 9 figures such as Major Kusanagi, Batou, and Fuchikoma. Players and collectors can choose physical MasterCraft Resin miniatures or STL files designed for home 3D printing.
Another advantage for supporters is early access to the game's digital rulebook. Backers are scheduled to receive an advance PDF version in September, allowing them to begin creating characters and learning the mechanics before the physical editions are delivered. The rulebook covers areas including character development, cybernetic modifications, combat, hacking, equipment, and an introductory mission.
