FOLIO OTONITY - Here is some information about the popular Japanese manga, Tenkaichi. We’ll be bringing you a review of the recently released Tenkaichi: The Ultimate Battle No. 9. Be sure to read to the end!

Tenkaichi: Nihon Saikyou Bugeisha Ketteisen is a Japanese monthly martial arts tournament manga by Yousuke Nakamaru (story) and Kyoutarou Azuma (art), published by Kodansha. Set in 1600s Japan, the manga depicts a time when Oda Nobunaga is still alive and organizes a deadly tournament to find the strongest fighter under the heavens.

Volume 9 of the manga Tenkaichi: Nihon Saikyou Bugeisha Ketteisen was released in Japan on May 20, 2024. Here, we’ll be reviewing that manga. Check out the article below!

Review Manga Tenkaichi: The Ultimate Battle No. 9

To be honest, the premise of seeing how the strongest attack fares against the most effective defense through a historical figure who has recently become very famous in the West is, arguably, quite unique, but the strength of this manga and this volume isn’t limited to just that.

Tenkaichi continues to stand out for the strength of its artwork, which remains as dynamic as ever. What’s more, I think this volume is one of the best examples of Kyotaro Azuma’s growth. Although he started out with an exceptionally high level of skill, I feel that his characters are more expressive and their muscles are better defined.

There may still be a few shortcomings when it comes to adding certain visual effects intended to depict how the various fighters in the tournament push beyond human limits (in this volume, for example, the “sparks of fire” surrounding the swordsman only appear that way because the script explicitly describes them that way), but overall, this comic delivers excellent results.

He isn’t the only one who seems to have improved. In his writing, Yosuke has created a more developed story background and more impactful dialogue. I wouldn’t say he’s completely transformed, since the plot remains fairly simple, but I do see a certain improvement.
