FOLIO OTONITY – The anime industry has grown tremendously over the past 20 years, which makes it all the more remarkable that a company like Toei Animation is celebrating its 70th anniversary.
Originally founded in 1948 as Japan Animated Films, Toei acquired the company in 1956 and renamed it Toei Animation (known as Toei Doga at the time, since the international name “Toei Animation” wasn’t adopted until 1998). The rest is history.
That’s why, at such a momentous time for the studio, I’m sharing below seven historically significant anime from its catalog that are absolutely essential. Let’s get started.

A classic among classics, a legend among legends. Few anime have contributed more to Toei Animation than “Dragon Ball,” a story that went on to set the standard for modern shonen.
