One Piece Chapter 1190 Sparks a Major Haki Theory Involving Shanks and Gaban

While the confrontation involving Scopper Gaban and Imu is already attracting attention, one particular attack has triggered an intriguing discussion about the true potential of Haki. What initially appears to be a conventional weapon technique may actually represent something much more significant.
During the battle, Gaban unleashes an ability called Divine Gate. The attack sends several black lightning-like streaks toward his opponent, creating an unusual visual effect. Because Gaban is known for wielding axes, some readers initially interpreted the scene as an extension of his weapon-based fighting style.
However, another interpretation has quickly gained traction within the fan community. According to this theory, the dark projectiles are not produced by Gaban's axes at all. Instead, they could be manifestations of Conqueror's Haki, released outward as concentrated streams of energy capable of physically damaging another individual.

One detail in the manga panel has become particularly important to this argument. The paths taken by the black streaks appear to cut through branches of the Adam Tree. The attack then encounters Imu's Omen barrier, before continuing through the surrounding material after the collision. Supporters of the theory believe this visual sequence indicates that the lightning itself is responsible for the destruction.
The following panel may provide another clue. Gaban does not appear to use his axes until afterward, suggesting that the previous attack was generated independently from his weapons. If that interpretation is correct, the scene could represent another evolution in how Eiichiro Oda portrays advanced Haki.
There is already an important precedent involving Shanks. During his encounter with Ryokugyu, Shanks demonstrated an ability to project powerful Haki across an enormous distance. His presence alone was enough to force the Marine admiral to reconsider his attempt to approach Wano. Although Ryokugyu did not visibly suffer physical wounds from that display, the scene established that Conqueror's Haki can reach targets far beyond the user's immediate surroundings.
